WHAT
• SD61’s Pathways and Partnerships Department and Pacific Design Academy (PDA) are working in partnership to deliver a program providing a blend of classroom-based instruction, Adobe software training, and skill development.
• During the four-week program, the program will provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding within the graphic design industry, exploring conceptual thinking, typography, and design fundamentals.
• Students will earn 4 high school credits upon successful completion

Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:30pm
Classroom-based Instruction

WHERE
Classroom instruction will be taught at Pacific Design Academy (8 Bastion Square #200)

BIG IDEAS
• Design creates increased self-awareness of their creative abilities
• Graphic Design choices require the evaluation and refinement of skills
• Certain skills are required to develop creative solutions to specific communications problems/goals
• Tools and technologies can influence communications and relationships

STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND
• the basics of Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• the creative design process
• the terminology and design principles of page layout and typography for desktop publication
• career options and opportunities in Graphic Design

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
• think outside of the box when it comes to design thinking
• demonstrate their developing creative potential, visual thinking, brainstorming, and research skills
• modify, manipulate, and enhance photographic and other images in preparation for placement in print or web documents
• work in print in terms of image quality, resolution, and colour space
• understand that good image quality and design can be achieved through critiques and the comparison of different images.
